about

This recording of pond ice has some great dynamic, varied sounds happening, including crackles, pops, hisses, "pew pews", and "woooooommmms"--the latter of which drops down into sub-bass realms (subwoofer recommended). This recording was made on an overcast day, which leads to more time in between each sound event; if it were recorded on a sunny day the thermal differences across the pond would have made these sounds happen more often.

Released in memory of Debby McIntosh, a long-time family friend who offered her dock to record this and other Coonamessett Pond field and hydrophone recordings. You will be missed.
